Schedule F reinstated

Schedule F was reinstated by executive order on Jan 20, 2025, stripping removal-for-cause protections from tens of thousands of career federal jobs. Implementation ongoing across agencies.

This action has been completed. The work now is reversal.

Detail

The executive order "Restoring Accountability to Policy-Influencing Positions" was signed on inauguration day and re-created a schedule of at-will positions eligible for removal without cause. OPM guidance followed in the weeks after. Federal employee unions filed suit; reversal would require either a successor EO, congressional action (MERIT Act), or a permanent court injunction.
