Paris Climate Accord withdrawal (second time)

The US initiated withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement via executive order on Jan 20, 2025. Under the Paris treaty rules, the withdrawal takes effect one year after notification.

This action has been completed. The work now is reversal.

Detail

A Day-One EO directed the State Department to formally notify the UNFCCC Secretariat of US withdrawal. The withdrawal takes effect Jan 2026 (one-year notice). Reversing does not require new legislation — a successor president can simply re-accede by executive action.
