The Department of Education has been ordered to begin self-dissolution. Full statutory elimination requires Congress; in the meantime, major functions are being reassigned or wound down.

This action is underway. The work is to slow, redirect, or stop it.

Detail

An EO directed the Secretary of Education to prepare the department for dissolution and to transfer functions (Title I, IDEA, student loans) to other departments. Full elimination requires an act of Congress, which has not passed; operational degradation is advancing via attrition and function-transfer regardless. Reversal requires restoring funding and staffing, plus a Congress that will not re-eliminate the department.
